Things to Do
Lønstrup works well as a base for a holiday where you do a little of everything: a walk on the beach in the morning, a gallery visit after lunch, and an excursion to a lighthouse, an abbey or a museum in the afternoon.
Almost everything worth seeing is within a 30-minute drive, and much of it can be reached by bike if you don't mind a headwind on the way home.
Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse
The area's landmark, standing in a migrating dune about five kilometres south of the village. In 2019 the whole building was moved roughly 80 metres inland to save it from the sea. You can climb the tower for a wide view over the coast, the dune and the North Sea.
With children
Minigolf in the village, wide beaches for kite flying and sandcastles, farm visits with cattle in the summer months, and an indoor pool at the nearby holiday resort when the weather turns.
Cycling and golf
Bikes and e-bikes can be rented locally, and quiet country roads lead inland through farmland and small villages. There is a golf course a few kilometres away with views over the coastline.
History and culture
Børglum Abbey, the old fishing village, the story of Mårup Church that had to be dismantled as the cliff eroded, and the local lifeboat station all tell part of how life on this coast has been shaped by the sea.
